Making Your Dream Hair Salon a Reality, While Remembering the Basics

When designing your dream salon, it is easy to get carried away with how it will look and what furniture or technology you are going to purchase. However, to have your salon function at its best and make money for you, you will have to take some more important and basic considerations on board first.

#1 Ensure that you have enough basins and hot water

Depending on the number of stylists that you are either looking to employ or rent chairs out to will determine the number of basins you will require. You should have at least one basin per functioning workstation. This is because some services may require your customers to stay seated at or near the basin area, but in a busy salon, every minute counts, so while one client is waiting to be rinsed, another may have a trim or be prepared for another treatment.

With so many clients visiting your salon, you are going to want to make sure that you have an endless supply of warm water. This is because nobody, not even in hot weather, likes to have their hair washed in cold water. To ensure that this doesn’t happen in your salon, you are going to want to invest in a commercial water heater installation which will keep the warm water flowing and keep your clientele happy and coming back time and time again.

#2 Provide privacy for clients

Spacing can be everything; you should make sure that you have enough space between each working station so that your stylists can work back-to-back without getting in each other way and that any personal conversations that take place between client and stylist can not be easily overheard. This is because a lot of clients like to ‘talk’ to their stylist, and it is unfair to have them seated in a location where they can be easily overheard by other members of staff or clients.

Of course, you can add to this some background music, but it is important not to play it too loud as some clients may have sensitive hearing or may feel that they need to shout to be heard over the noise.

#3 Make your surfaces easy to clean

Cleanliness is vital, so you should make sure that all of your surfaces are easy to clean, especially your floors, workstations, basins, racking, and chairs. This is because, in hairdressing, there tend to be a lot of products that can make surfaces sticky or slippery. Each workstation, basin, and chair should be wiped down between clients, and of course, the floors should always be kept clean by sweeping away hair cuttings as soon as possible after the procedure has been carried out. Keeping your hair salon safe and hygienic for your stylists and your clients is paramount to the success of your business and being able to create the best impression possible on your clients.

#4 Install plenty of racking for products

Of course, you are going to require racking to keep products that are used within your salon. However, to provide the all-important up-sale, you are also going to need racking and stands to showcase the products that your clients can purchase from you. Of course, these products should not be available from other general stores. This is so it increases the quality of the products themselves along with the service that you and your stylists provide.
