Data Protection And Security Tips For Startups

Protecting and securing your business data is a crucial task that needs to be accomplished and done as soon as you are in business. There are lots of business risks you can avoid if you take the necessary steps to protect its data with the right software including the Norton Antivirus for the prevention of malicious attacks.

Some causes of security breaches in small businesses include: unauthorized access to your computers or servers (mostly due to inadequate firewalls or weak passwords) using malicious software programs or when an employee inadvertently posts sensitive business information on a website or social media profile.

As businesses grow and expand information and data becomes very crucial for the survival of the company. The following measures can help protect and secure your business data on your servers, computers and laptops.

  1. The first and most important step is to hire the right people to manage and control the business. This step cannot be overemphasized. Most employees of small businesses  have access to private and sensitive business data. You have to be very sure of who you are hiring to access the business information.
  2. You should invest in software that can protect your computers and laptops from malicious applications.
  3. One of the best ways to protect your business data is to encrypt your sensitive data. Web and mobile applications or security suites are available that can make it easier for you. This step will prevent your data from compromise when there are breaches.
  4. Maintain a strong password policy. A lot of people use simple passwords that are easy for hackers to guess. Hackers use automated tools to combine  dictionary words and numbers to crack passwords. Use different characters when creating passwords or change your passwords now.
  5. Backup.Backup. Backup. Ensure that your data is properly backed up, and test the backup to ensure that your data can be recovered when you need it.
  6. You need security and protection when you give visitors Wi-Fi service—or share applications on your network with business partners—do you control their access? Are you sure that passersby and neighbors cannot use your wireless network?
  7. With the emergence of social profiles for businesses, it is important to create a blogging, social media policy to guide how your employees share business information on the internet.
