Do You Prefer To Be On Facebook Or Twitter?

Social networking is changing the way we interact with each other at an amzing rate. Venture capitalists have poured money into these services just to make sure they get your attention and sell to you as well.

Facebook, launched in February 2004, drew 135.4 million unique visitors to its site in April 2010 for a whopping 3.2 billion total visits, according to Compete. Twitter, launched in March 2006, lured 21.5 million unique visitors in April 2010 for 147.4 million total visits. Via Networkworld

Facebook or Twitter. If you were to choose between the two, which one would you prefer to stick to. Everyone is vying for their share of your attention. And they have succeed at that for the past six years.

Facebook is the place to grow and nurture communities. It gives you the ability to know who is interested in your products and services (because they have opted in) and allows you to target that community. You can equally create and market your professional slate.

Twitter is all about messaging. Messages go to your followers, but are easily accessible by everyone. You can equally grow a community around your products and services. Your followers can stay updated about new information about your professional life and your services as well.

Twitter and Facebook are perfect for different purposes and target markets. But the question is which of these companies can you not live without.

Facebook is your Friendster, Email, IM, Flickr, Youtube almost a complete package BUT you risk a lot if Facebook security is compromised.

Twitter is easy to update and you can include any links without any restrictions BUT it can be easily spammed and exploited and the outages are just frustrating.

Digital Surgeons, an online marketing agency, has put together an infographic comparing the Facebook population to the Twitter population. Find out for yourself, which service specific users prefer the most.

In Omeoos words ” Facebook is a smart tool for simple people. Twitter is a simple tool for smart people. ”

I believe that the future belongs to the specialized social commerce sites such as Xaxii. The all purpose sites like twitter and facebook will always have their place but the growth should be in niche, industry focused sites.
